Burn’s Supper
Robbie Burns Night
The Celtic Quarter will celebrate Robert Burns Night on January 22, 2011.
Robbie Burns is Scotland’s favorite son. Known there simply The Bard, his poetry reveals the heart and soul of the true Scot. He is known for such poems as “Red, Red Rose,” and the traditional New Year’s song, “Auld Lang Syne.” His work has influenced social and political thought, and he is held in high regard by Scots throughout the world.
The Celtic Quarter hosts an annual Burns Night Dinner as a fund raising event, with proceeds going to support the extensive restoration work underway at Society’s headquarters in Hancock.
Tickets for the Burns Night Dinner can be purchased from any Celtic Quarter member. Join us for a night of good food, good music, and good friends.
Auld Lang Syne
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne* ?
For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp !
and surely I’ll be mine !
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
We twa hae run about the braes,
and pu’d the gowans fine ;
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit,
sin auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidl’d i’ the burn,
frae morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
sin auld lang syne.
And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere !
and gie’s a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll tak a right gude-willy waught,
for auld lang syne.
